FIPP President to deliver opening keynote at Alberta Magazines Conference

FIPP President & CEO, James Hewes, will this week address delegates attending the Alberta Magazine Publishers Association (AMPA) Conference in Calgary, in a special opening keynote designed to take attendees on a trip around the global publishing industry in 60 minutes.

The two day event is taking place at the Grey Eagle Resort and Casino, and will include a range of multi-track sessions for editors, art directors, publishers and writers. It’s a welcome return to physical format for the AMPA flagship conference, whose members include a wider range of magazine publisher that provide what it calls a ‘uniquely Albertan view of the world’.

Speaking to ANER earlier this month – The Brazilian National Association of Magazine Editors – Hewes emphasised the importance of local as well as global publishers

“Local publishing remains hugely important, and there is no easy solution to its survival. It could be a combination of big tech and government money, because local news is a public service. They must receive money from the government, but without intervention, because independence is necessary. Another option is to collaborate with each other and with the tech companies that provide services.”

In Calgary, James will share insights into what some of the biggest media brands in the world are currently investing in, as well as taking a look at some of the emerging and dominant trends in national markets around the world.

In addition to the speaker programme, the event will also include breakout sessions, roundtables, and the Alberta Magazines Awards Gala, all of which you can find out more about here
